Dear Ms. Pedgrift,
Thank you for your message regarding the impacts of climate change on our communities. I am disappointed the President has chosen to remove the United States from the Paris Agreement.
As a signatory of the Mayors National Climate Action Agenda, I am committed to honoring the goals of the Paris Climate Accord and holding the City of Albany to the standards agreed by all but three of the world’s nations. The City of Albany is working to ensure we meet numerous goals set forth by our sustainability studies, Albany Energy Plan, and 2030 Comprehensive Plan. Some of these goals include achieving a 20% energy reduction in municipal buildings by 2020, and reducing Carbon Dioxide emissions from wastewater and wastewater treatment by 10% by 2030. We have already replaced all the light bulbs in City Hall to more energy efficient LED’s, and we are currently implementing a GPS tracking system in some of our Department of General Services vehicles to help ensure our routes are the most efficient possible.
